Liam’s Story
Liam’s Story
The William K. Janshego Legacy Foundation 501(C)(3) was created to honor the life and legacy of William “Liam” Kirk Janshego—a bright, joyful, and deeply loved little boy whose courage continues to inspire all who knew him.
A Joyful Beginning
Liam came into the world with a smile that could light up a room and a laugh that warmed every heart around him. He was a curious, happy child who loved music, waving at people, and snuggling close to his family. Some of his favorite moments were simple ones: eating mini muffins, playing with his favorite toys, watching Daniel Tiger and Elmo, and sharing giggles with his big sister. Even in the earliest months of his life, it was clear that Liam carried with him a special light—one that drew people in and left them better for having known him.
An Unexpected Battle
At just 22 months old, Liam was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive pediatric brain cancer: Atypical Teratoid/Rhabdoid Tumor (ATRT). The diagnosis was devastating. In an instant, the life of a carefree toddler and his family was changed forever.
But where others might have faltered, Liam showed a kind of strength that far exceeded his years. He endured hospital stays, countless medical procedures, and grueling treatments with a spirit that amazed even his doctors and nurses. Through it all, Liam remained the same sweet boy who waved to visitors, sought comfort in his favorite shows, and found joy in the little things. His bravery wasn’t loud or dramatic—it was gentle, steady, and full of heart.
A Family’s Courage
Liam’s parents, big sister, uncles, aunts, and grandparents stood by his side through every moment of his journey. They cherished the time they were given—reading stories, singing songs, and holding him close. His family filled his days with as much love, comfort, and laughter as possible, knowing that each moment together was a gift.
Though the treatments were difficult, Liam never let his diagnosis define him. He continued to show love in the way he reached for his family’s hands, joy in the way he smiled at the smallest things, and resilience in the way he faced each new challenge.
Saying Goodbye
On March 12, 2025, after weeks of fighting with unimaginable courage, Liam’s body found rest. Surrounded by love and held in the arms of his parents, he peacefully slipped away. Though his time on earth was heartbreakingly short, the impact of his life was immeasurable. Liam’s story is one of pure love, strength, and hope—an enduring reminder that even the smallest among us can leave the biggest mark on the world.
Carrying His Legacy Forward
In the days following Liam’s passing, it became clear to his family that his story was not meant to end. His spirit, his bravery, and his light continue to shine, guiding the work of the William K. Janshego Legacy Foundation, founded in his honor in 2025.
The foundation exists to continue Liam’s fight—by advancing research into pediatric brain cancers like ATRT, supporting families who are walking similar paths, and raising awareness about the urgent need for better treatments and cures. Every event, every donation, and every act of kindness done in Liam’s name is a way of carrying forward the love he gave so freely.
A Lasting Impact
Liam’s life reminds us that hope can live in even the hardest places, and that love has the power to endure beyond all measure. He may no longer be here in the physical sense, but his presence continues to be felt in every smile, every act of generosity, and every effort to bring healing to others.
Through the foundation, Liam’s light will never dim. His story lives on—inspiring others to fight bravely, love deeply, and believe in a future free from pediatric brain cancer.
